PESHAWAR: The activists of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) staged a protest here on Sunday against what they called political victimisation of their leader and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

Holding placards inscribed with slogans like ‘release Nawaz Sharif,’ ‘stop revenge in the name of treatment’ and ‘free the architect of Pakistan,’ the protesters demanded an immediate release of their incarcerated leader.

“The former three times premier is being victimized. The rulers are now even depriving the leader of the largest political party of his legal right of the medical treatment,” said one of the protesters.

Led by Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Sobia Shahid and Khadim Ali Yusufzai, the social media team members of the party gathered at the Peshawar Press Club to lodge the protest at the treatment being meted out to Nawaz Sharif.

Lashing out at the government, they said Nawaz Sharif, who made Pakistan a stable country by conducting nuclear tests and put the country on the path to economic prosperity and development, had been implicated in false cases.

The person, who remained three-time prime minister was being treated like a hardened criminal and even deprived of medical treatment despite having a severe cardiac problem, they added.

The protesters said the rulers were bent upon taking revenge and were victimising their leader.

Demanding an early release of Nawaz Sharif, they warned of dire consequences if anything wrong happened to their leader.

They later dispersed peacefully after chanting slogans against the government and vowed to launch a protest movement if Nawaz Sharif was not taken care of properly.
