AC orders flattening of speed breakers at PWD road
Islamabad : In a bold move the Assistant Commissioner (Rural), Umer Randhawa, ordered flattening of unnecessary and extremely troublesome speed breakers set up on the congested PWD road connecting a number of private sector housing societies in Islamabad.
"Responding to the increasing demands of general public I was compelled to take this decision to bring relief to the motorists commuting up and down this busy road," the AC (Rural) said. "Only necessary speed breakers, like those in front of the educational institutions and hospitals will remain as safety measure for the young students and patients. However, those also have to be of proper height and span," said AC Umer Randhawa while talking to 'The News'.
He said that weather permitting the next step of carrying out the necessary patch work to repair the badly damaged parts of the road and to fill the pits and potholes will be conducted within the next couple of days.
"The badly damaged patches on the PWD road have already been dug up and the necessary compaction work is already in progress. Because of the recent rainy spell the people faced some problems while traversing through the dug up patches. However, these will be immediately repaired as soon as the weather gives us a break to launch patch work on these spots as well as to fill other pits and potholes on this road," AC (Rural) Randhawa said.
He said that people have also complained about the ineffective and chocked drainage system which causes formation of large pools and puddles during rains. "There are a few spots where so much water accumulates during and after rains that many vehicles submerge and get stuck in almost knee-deep waters," the AC (Rural) said.
AC (Rural) Randhawa also visited the site of creating a 'fish-belly U-turn' at Khokhar Hotel traffic signal for free flow of traffic and do away with the only traffic signal existing on the Islamabad Highway.
"In collaboration with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) we have already deployed the machinery to launch the earth work and levelling-grading activity is already continuing. We hope to complete this project as early as possible, again permitting weather conditions. Once completed this initiative will help streamline the traffic flow," he added.
