IGP summoned over non-compliance with court orders

Taking notice of the non-compliance of the Sindh High Court’s (SHC) orders about providing security to a citizen, the provincial police chief and the South Range DIG have been ordered to appear in court on February 27 and submit their compliance report.

The direction came on Wednesday on a petition of Hakim Ali, who had moved the court against alleged harassment by an influential person in collusion with the local police. Ali claimed that a private builder, namely Tufail Sadruddin, was bent on dispossessing him from his residential bungalow situated in the Clifton neighbourhood as well as creating hindrance in his passage.

The petitioner said that the SHC on August 30, 2017 had directed the IGP and the South DIG to ensure that he was not harassed or intimidated in any manner and to also ensure his safety and security.

Ali said that despite the repeated order of the SHC, the respondents did not provide him with safety and security and the court’s orders were yet to be complied with.

The high court observed that the IGP and the South DIG through a January 25, 2019 order were also directed to ensure the safety and security of the petitioner and submit a compliance report.

The SHC said that the Boat Basin SHO submitted a report that showed that the South DIG had referred the court’s order to the South SSP for compliance, but the petitioner claimed that the direction was not being complied with.
