Cash prizes for Punjab women hockey team
LAHORE: Punjab women hockey team members were awarded cash prizes at a ceremony at National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.
It’s worth mentioning that Punjab women hockey team clinched silver medal in 30th National Women Hockey Championship. DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar was the chief guest on this occasion. Punjab Hockey Association Secretary Asif Naz Khokhar, Punjab Women Hockey President Abida Tanveer, Punjab Women Hockey Secretary Rahat Khan, Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, women sports official Kanwal Khan were also present on this occasion.
Addressing the cash award ceremony, DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar said immense hard work is required for regaining lost glory in hockey in the country. “Pakistan will have to adopt modern techniques for the actual revival of hockey”.
DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar said the game of hockey has changed a lot in the 21st century. “Now it has become imperative for any nation to learn modern hockey techniques if they want to earn a respectable place among world hockey community. Similarly, Pakistan is also required to adopt modern hockey technique and appoint those coaches who are laced with latest hockey skills”. Regarding cash prizes DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar said it’s just beginning. Sports Board Punjab will offer more rewards for outstanding performances in future.
DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar also announced stipend for all women hockey players. “The players with exceptional performances will be given regular monthly stipend,” he added.Punjab Women Hockey President Abida Tanveer and Secretary Rahat Khan paid rich tributes to DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar for his sincere efforts for the promotion of hockey in the province. “Sports Board Punjab under the leadership of DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar is taking magnificent measures for the growth of sports culture,” they said.
The women hockey players who received cheques from DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar include: Tahira Aslam, Kainat Zulfiqar, Amna Arshad, Tabarqa Tariq, Nida Asghar, Iqra Arshad, Faiqa Riaz, Areeba Sarwar, Sharika Sarwar, Arzoo Manzoor, Khansa, Nida Majeed, Attiya, Mehwish, Beenish, Yusra Khawar, Laiba Shahbaz and Aneeza Ali.
