PU sets up Guru Nanak chair

LAHORE: In order to do research and explore his teachings, Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad on Tuesday inaugurated ‘Baba Guru Nanak research chair’.

Faculty of Oriental Learning Dean Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar, Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, Department of Punjabi Chairperson Dr Nabeela Rehman, editor in-chief Punjabi language, literature and culture journal Sardar Ajaib Singh Chattha, Punjabi University, Patiala Dean Prof Dr Jasbeer Core, Dr Naveed Shahzad and Sikh teachers and writers from Canada and India were present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Prof Niaz said Guru Nanak promoted the message of tolerance through his actions and teachings. He said Guru Nanak had made great efforts for establishment of a peaceful society. He said the purpose of setting up ‘Baba Guru Nanak research chair’ was to promote the message of peace he had preached. Sardar Ajaib Singh thanked the VC for establishing the chair and said collaborative efforts were much needed to resolve issues being faced by the society.
