LAHORE
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has decided to continue protest against induction of Rana Sanaullah Khan during the upcoming budget session of the Punjab Assembly which is likely to begin in the second week of June.
PTI, the major Opposition party of PA with 30 members, also enjoy complete support of the PML-Q which has eight members in the House. PPP, with 8 members in PA, may not become part of the protest against Rana Sana as so far no direction has been passed on to its parliamentary leadership by the top brass in this regard.
PTI and PML-Q have already recorded its protest in the last session when a Joint Investigation Team cleared the names of Model Town accused including Rana Sana. Within one week after receiving a clean chit from the JIT, Rana Sana, the only political figure who had resigned after the Model Town carnage last year, was inducted in the cabinet by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
He has been assigned the portfolio of Law and Parliamentary affairs, which he was holding at a time of tendering his resignation last year.
The Punjab government received serious flak from Pakistan Awami Tehreek whose 14 members were reportedly gunned down by Police during its raid on Model Town Secretariat of Minhaj ul Quran. It also held protests in different parts of Punjab on Friday against Rana Sana’s return to the cabinet.
Besides, PTI Punjab leadership led by Opposition leader in PA Mian Mehmood ul Rasheed staged a sit-in at Faisal Chowk and demanded termination of Sana. PTI MPAs including Mian Aslam Iqbal, Saadia Sohail, Dr Nausheen Hamid, Dr Muraad Ross and party loyalists including Akhter Malik and others were also present.
Holding banners and placards carrying remarks against Rana Sana, the PTI MPAs stated that his presence in the Punjab cabinet was a mockery with the blood of the martyrs.
Mian Mehmood ul Rasheed said the PTI would continue to raise voice against the decision in the budget session and wouldn’t let the proceedings continue smoothly.
Moreover, Sheikh Waqas Moakkel, the Parliamentary leader of PML-Q while talking to The News said that the government must make public the report prepared by Justice Baqir in the Model Town killings. He said that until justice was done to the martyrs of Model Town, PML-Q would continue to record its protest in and outside Punjab Assembly.
Moreover, according to a handout issued on Saturday, Provincial Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah Khan has said the JIT report had cleared him but PTI wanted decisions of its own choice. He said that PTI instead of serving the masses would continue to raise a hue and cry till 2018.
Commenting upon the statements of the PTI leaders, he said time had come that Imran Khan and his companions should adopt a serious attitude in politics. He said the PTI was doing politics of non-issues due to disappointment for not coming to power. He claimed that the attitude of PTI leaders was clear proof to their lies. He claimed the PTI needed a new lie daily for its politics. He advised PTI leaders not to mislead the nation.
“A lust for power has mentally upset the PTI leadership, and local bodies’ elections in KP have exposed those raising slogan of change,” he added.
