ISLAMABAD: Sarah Mahboob turned out to be an easy winner in the singles event of the SN Ladies National Tennis Tournament, beating Sara Mansoor in the final at the PTF Tennis Complex here on Saturday.
Against all expectations, the final was a one-sided affair as Sarah beat her namesake 6-3, 6-2. Sarah defeated Zoha Asim in a hard-fought encounter to reach the final while Sara beat Shimza Naz in the other semi-final.
Earlier, Sarah Mahboob pairing with Sara Mansoor clinched the ladies doubles title after beating Esha Jawad and Mahvish Chishtie.
Shimza Naz of Lahore won the girls’ Under-18 crown, beating Zoha Asim in a match which lasted more than 2 hours and concluded with the latter’s retirement due to injury.
Eight-year-old Haniya Minhas completed her double with victory in the girls’ Under-14 final over Amna Ali. On Friday, Haniya won the U10 crown.
Pakistan Tennis Federation President Salim Saifullah Khan was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed prizes amonth the players.
Subh-e-Nau Chairperson Shahida Kausar Farooq and Humayun Saifullah Khan were also present on this occasion.
Results: Ladies’ singles (semi-finals): Sara Mansoor bt Shimza Naz 6-1, 6-1; Sarah Mahboob bt Zoha Asim 6-1, 7-6(8).
Final: Sarah Mahboob bt Sara Mansoor 6-2, 6-3.
Girls’ Under-14 (final): Haniya Minhas bt Amna Ali 4-2, 4-0.
Girls’ Under-18 (final): Shimza Naz bt Zoha Asim 2-6, 6-4, 4-2 (retired hurt).
Ladies’ doubles (semi-finals): Sara Mansoor & Sarah Mahboob bt Meheq Khokhar & Zoha Asim 6-2, 6-2; Mahvish Chishtie & Esha Jawad bt Mariam Mirza & Nida Akram 6-1, 6-2.
Final: Sara Mansoor & Sarah Mahboob bt Mahvish Chishtie & Esha Jawad 6-0, 6-0.
