A motorcycle rider managed to break into the international departure entrance gate at the Jinnah International Airport on Saturday evening. Footage of the incident went viral on social media showing a man being wrestled to the floor and then being taken into custody by the Airport Security Force (ASF) personnel.

The bomb disposal squad deployed at the airport confirmed that no explosive material was found on the suspect. Sources at the airport said that the suspect’s ID card showed he was a Defence View resident hailing from Haripur.

Airport SHO Moosa Kaleem said the suspect was yet to be handed over to the police, adding that it was believed that he was mentally challenged, but nothing could be said until the police get his custody.

An eyewitness said that he fell down on the floor and started reciting the Kalima. “No one was there to stop him.... It could have been a suicide bomber and we could have lost our lives.”

According to another witness, vigilance staff of the Civil Aviation Authority and a policeman present there caught him after his motorcycle suddenly slipped.

ASF sources said that this was not the first such incident, as two similar cases had occurred recently in which the suspects were declared mentally challenged and no one was punished.
