RIS celebrates World Radio Day

Islamabad : Roots International Schools (RIS) and Colleges to educate students about communication systems specifically radio, World Radio Day was celebrated throughout campuses across country, says a press release.

Activities included arts and craft were organized, where students drew, and made radios. Trips to radio stations were arranged. Students were given education sessions about history of radio, how it was invented, different changes and developments it has went throughout time. Radio has placed an important part in world history as well as Pakistan’s. Students were amazed to know facts like creation of Pakistan was first announced on radio by Mustafa Ali Hamdani. Students were also educated about history and theme of the 2019 International World Radio Day.

World Radio Day 2019 was held on Wednesday 13 February around the theme of “Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace.” According to UNESCO, “radio is the perfect medium to counter the appeals for violence and the spread of conflict, especially in regions potentially more exposed to such realities.”Events were held in more than 80 countries around the world to mark the day. The impact of radio in the pursuit of a more peaceful and tolerant world was celebrated. Students were sensitized about building and uniting communities, good will , inspiring humanity and how radio impacts our lives.

In 2010, the notion of World Radio Day was first proposed by Spain’s Radio Academy in 2010. The following year, in 2011, UNESCO declared the first World Radio Day. February 13 was chosen to mark World Radio Day coinciding with the anniversary of the United Nations Radio, the United Nation’s international broadcasting service which was established on February 13, 1946. World Radio Day was first celebrated in 2012.
