Acid victim dies in hospital,
accused husband in police custody

MULTAN: An ill-fated woman succumbed to her acid burns at a hospital, while her husband who had allegedly thrown acid on her was found dead in the police custody mysteriously, here on Thursday.
Relatives of the couple placed the body on Shujabad-Larr Road and protested against the police. They demanded justice and the arrest of the killers.
Later on, the police assured the protesters of providing them justice and arresting the killers of the couple, and the family got ready for the burial.
A woman Waziran Mai was burnt alive when someone threw acid on her when she was present at her home, along with her daughter Kalo Mai in remote village Shahpur in Shujabad. The girl also received acid burns on her body.
The two women were brought to Multan hospital with 75-80% burns. Waziran Mai died on Thursday while her daughter was still being treated at the Burn Hospital.
Raja Ram police had arrested the accused husband, Naseer Ahmed, and put him in a lock-up. However, he was also found dead mysteriously on Thursday and the police said he committed suicide by taking some poisonous substance.
Police said the husband and wife had been engaged in quarrels for long over the alleged illicit relations of Waziran Mai with someone. However, the deceased’s family rejected the account, saying the whole story was concocted. Family members also said it could not be established that Naseer had thrown acid at his wife. They said the matter should be investigated thoroughly as to who provided Naseer Ahmed poisonous substance in the police custody.
The family alleged the rival Baloch clan had been running a feud with the deceased couple over four kanals piece of land, located in Shujabad city worth Rs10 million. “We are poor and helpless people and our murder cases are defaced. The deceased Waziran Mai is my real sister and I don’t know who has thrown acid on her. My brother-in-law Naseer Ahmed cannot commit suicide but we don’t know the killers behind his mysterious death,” Muhammad Ramzan Aheer said.
He told The News Khaliq Baloch and Ramzan Baloch of the rival clan had threatened to take over four kanals piece of land, owned by Waziran Mai. The attackers first threw acid at her to kill her and then killed her husband also in the police custody.
