TAKHT BHAI: Several activists and cops sustained injuries as Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) supporters clashed here on Thursday.
Locals said that the PTI workers, on their return from a rally, reportedly started smashing the banners and placards of a PPP candidate for the local government election in Takh Bhai.
The PPP activists tried to stop the PTI workers that resulted in a physical clash between the two parties. The Malakand road turned into a virtual battlefield as the activists of PTI and PPP attacked each another with fists, sticks and stones, creating a severe traffic jam.
The cops intervened to control the situation but the charged activists of the PTI started pelting stones at them as well. Several PPP workers as wells cops sustained injuries.
The PTI activists also attacked the Takht Bhai Police Station upon which the police resorted to baton charge to disperse the mob and reopen the busy road. However, the political workers continued the protest.
The police arrested several activists of the PTI, including its tehsil president, Sadiq Khan, for blocking the road, pelting stones at the police and attacking the police station.Assistant Commissioner Ashfaq Khan, Senior Superintendent of Police Investigation Mardan, Shahid Khan, and other senior police officials reached the spot. They held talks with the PTI and PPP office-bearers and assured them to take action against the people responsible for the situation.
