LAHORE
Dozens of schoolteachers gathered outside the Punjab Assembly here on Monday once again and protested against the Punjab government for what they termed its indifferent attitude and ignoring their plight.
The call for the protest was given by Muttahida Mahaz Asataza Punjab (MMAP) in which a number of teachers participated and expressed their anger over the government’s silence vis-à-vis problems being faced by teachers of government schools. MMAP leaders including Tariq Mahmood, Hafiz Ghulam Mohy Ud Din, Kashif Shahzad, Hafiz Abdul Nasir and others said schoolteachers across the province would once again start their “Save Education” campaign by observing a sit-in at Faisal Chowk outside the Punjab Assembly from June 1. A number of parliamentarians from opposition benches also visited the protesting teachers on Monday and expressed solidarity with them and assured to raise their issue on the floor of the house. The MMAP leaders condemned police action against protesting teachers and said the tactics could not deter them from protesting for their rights. They further said the sit-in starting from June 1 would continue till the acceptance of their demands.
