LAHORE: Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi on Sunday said Ulema would have to play their role in ending divisions in Muslims on the basis of sects.
Addressing a concluding session of a two-day training of Ulema and students organised by Ilm-o-Aman Foundation, Tahir Ashrafi said extremism created violence in societies, therefore, Ulema would have to guide the people about tolerance and religious harmony to make a moderate society. He added that Ulema should come forward to play their vital role in promoting Islamic teachings which give a message of peace, love and brotherhood. The PUC is trying its level best to resolve issues between different schools of thought and sects in a better way, Ashrafi added.
He stressed the need to make an organised struggle to end terrorism and extremism. He said some anti-Islam forces were trying to divide Muslims through their evil designs but Ulema through their unity and struggle would foil their nefarious designs. He said a peaceful society could be created by promoting inter-religion harmony and tolerance.
