LALAMUSA: Relatives of a missing taxi driver Faisal Shahzad, including women, demonstrated on the GT Road by burning tyres on both sides of the road and blocked it for more than an hour on Monday. They later besieged the City Police Station for not recovering the kidnapped taxi driver, even after five days.
Women, while beating their chests and crying, alleged that the police were not listening to them and giving VIP protocol to the arrested accused. They have been given beds for rest instead of being interrogated as they enjoy the backing of some influential persons, they alleged. They warned to continue their protest on the GT Road till the arrival of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif there to provide them justice.
They feared that the taxi driver had been killed on the day of abduction and the police were hiding the facts from them.
Due to the blocked road, the police, led by SHO Sanaullah Dillo, could not reach the protest site. He held a meeting with relatives of the kidnapped taxi driver at the City Police Station and assured them that justice would be provided to them. The protesters ended their protest after meeting the SHO, though the traffic remained jammed for hours.
The taxi driver had booked a passenger from Lalamusa to Islamabad on April 29 and when he was on his way back, he was allegedly kidnapped. After two days, his taxi was found parked in Mohallah Qasarabad and his driving seat had blood stains, while a cell-phone, a purse and the key were present in the car.
