MoU signed for solar power training course

Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) on Monday signed an MoU with the Punjab Energy Department for joint collaboration for training of solar photovoltaic technicians.
Tevta Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Shaikh and Additional Chief Secretary Muhammad Jehanzeb Khan signed the MoU according to which six-month training will be partly conducted at Tevta institutes and partly at a private company which will provide solar power facility working under the energy department to equip the students with theoretical knowledge and hands-on technical skills required for installation, operationalisation and maintenance of solar power projects in Punjab.
Secretary Energy Asad Rehman Gillani, Chief Operating Officer, Tevta, Jawad Ahmad Qureshi, Focal Person private company Dr Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan, General Managers, Tevta, Hamid Ghani Anjum, Abdul Qayyum, Azhar Iqbal Shad, Director R&D Dr Iftikhar Hussain Shah and other Tevta officers were present.
Irfan Qaiser Shaikh said the six-month duration course of Solar PV System for power generation would be conducted at Govt College of Technology (GCT) for Boys, Bahawalpur whereas practical part of training would be conducted in the form of On Job Training (OJT) at private company 100MW project site which was situated over 500 acres of land in Cholistan Desert near Bahawalpur. The machinery and equipment for practical training will be provided by Energy Department/QA Solar at their project site.
Jehanzeb Khan said following the 18th amendment in the Constitution, the provinces were now vested with full authority to develop power projects of any capacity through public or private sector and establish required regulatory framework. He said Punjab with its large pool of skilled professionals, adequate infrastructure and affordable rates made it an obvious destination of choice for investors.

Chairman Hall Council Prof Dr Muhammad Akhter, acting treasurer Rao Muhammad Sharif, RO-I Prof Dr Sajid Rashid, RO-II Malik Muhammad Zaheer, Chief Engineer Ch Muhammad Jamil, faculty members and students were present. The students thanked the VC for providing better facilities and completion of renovation work at the shopping centre.
