Jameel Ahmed, the recently posted DIG of Karachi’s South Range, has called for increased security measures across the area.
“This is a highly sensitive area as the Red Zone, which houses several important installations and government offices, is also a part of the South Range,” DIG Ahmed said while speaking to The News on Friday.
He said strict instructions for increased vigilance and security measures had been issued to all stations in the range. “We have discussed in detail the increasing incidence of crimes, particularly street crimes, in the range including in Defence Housing Authority,” said DIG Ahmed.
He said all subordinates had been ordered to remain vigilant and increase patrolling in their respective districts, along with more snap checking points at affected areas.
DIG Ahmed said that Friday was often a day of increased criminal activity, usually before or after the afternoon prayers, adding that special directions had been issued to SSPs, SPs, SDPOs and SHOs in this regard.
“All officials have been told to remain vigilant and kept an eye out for any suspicious movement or objects near sensitive locations such as mosques and imambargahs,” he said.

After receiving directions from the new DIG, police teams had set up checkpoints at several locations. This led to the arrest of two robbers near Defence Morr, as a patrolling police mobile happened to pass by as they were looting a citizen.
An encounter ensued after which both suspects, who were arrested in an injured condition, were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC).
One of the robbers later succumbed to his injuries, while the other was said to be in critical condition. Two TT pistols, snatched cell phones, and wallets were found in their possession..
