Fair elections

In these critical political circumstances, Pakistan is moving closer to the general elections, which are to be held on July 25. As the electoral history of Pakistan is packed with brutal incidents, it is the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)’s obligation to make the electoral process free and fair and take stricter measures to prevent ruthless incidents such as that of 2015 which claimed the lives of around 11 people during the local bodies’ elections in Ranipur. It is also the responsibility of contesting parties to tell their workers not to indulge in such harmful incidents. Similarly, the law-enforcement agencies should prepare themselves to counter any attempts to manipulate the upcoming polls.
