The tenure of the elected civilian government is nearing its end. Within a few weeks, various political parties will start their election campaigns. It is expected that political leaders will try to earn the confidence of voters through sheer political rhetoric. We should now begin analysing the performance of each provincial government. One thing that ought to be taken care of is that economic growth is not the only factor to determine the country’s progress. The main factor that should be thoroughly addressed before we assess someone’s performance is development.
We need to examine how much healthcare and education sectors and the overall living standard of citizens have improved. We have to determine which party has worked towards strengthening relationships with neighbouring countries. The lack of public interest in the electoral process leads to corrupt politicians winning with majority. At this critical juncture, we have to place minor disputes on the backburner and prioritise the future of our country. Our growing preoccupation with the politics of personalities should be done away with. Our prime focus should instead be on voting for politicians who have a vision for public welfare.
