KARAK: Tehsil Nazim Karak Abdul Wahab was removed from his office by the members of Tehsil Council Karak through successful vote of no-confidence here on Tuesday. He was briefly arrested by the police for his 'undue interruption, in the democratic process of vote of no-confidence.

The Tehsil Council meeting was held at the Town Hall Karak for final voting on the no-confidence motion tabled by the members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and his own party Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Tehsil Councillors against him.

The supporters of the tehsil nazim and opposition members gathered at the Town Hall Karak early morning. However, Deputy Commissioner Karak Zariful Mani imposed Section 144 around the Town Hall due to sensitivity of the situation. The people were forced the people to leave the place to complete the process of no-confidence vote in a peaceful manner.

When the Tehsil Council members gathered at Town Hall, Tehsil Nazim Abdul Wahab tried to stop by force the entry of two female councilors and one minority member from entering the house. Abdul Wahab argued that they had resigned.

The tehsil nazim and opposition members exchanged harsh words on the issue and the police had to intervene. The tehsil nazim also scuffled with the police. Later, District Police Officer Furqan Bilal reached the spot and directed the cops to take the tehsil nazim along with a supporter Maulana Saiful Islam to the Karak Police Station. The process of no-confidence was carried out in the absence of the tehsil nazim. Out of 15 tehsil councillors, 11 voted against the tehsil nazim.

Meanwhile, speaking at a press conference after his release from lock-up, Abdul Wahab claimed that he was still the tehsil nazim and termed the meeting as illegal. He claimed that three councillors had tendered their resignations, which had been accepted by the Election Commission. He said he would move court against the 'illegal process' that unseated him.
