Punjab, Sindh ink accord for criminals digital data-sharing

LAHORE : Punjab Police Inspector General Captain (r) Arif Nawaz Khan said efficient use of information technology to face the challenges of modern policing along with mutual sharing of digital software of provincial police forces is need of the time to eliminate anti-social elements who commit interprovincial crimes.

He said modern inventions in information technology had changed police culture and Punjab police not only adopted IT reforms for upgrading their systems but also set a precedent for others. He said with the agreement of digitalised criminal data sharing, the movement of criminals would be restricted and other provinces should also follow adopt this technology.

Captain (r) Arif said this while addressing officers after meeting Inspector General Sindh AD Khawaja at committee room. IG Sindh was here to ink an agreement with Inspector General Punjab Police for digital data sharing of criminals.

AD Khawaja called this agreement a mile stone and said Punjab police had always been a role model for other provinces due to its reforms. He emphasised that there should be an efficient mechanism at federal level to promote interprovincial coordination and professional skills. He thanked the Punjab government and Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and said the process of technology sharing would continue.

DIG IT Shariq Kamal Siddiqi briefed the officers that in criminal record office (CRO) all documents including pictures, fingerprints and other details of criminals were secured and the process of identification of fingerprints was connected to all districts and field units. He said data of one million criminals was available in CRO of Punjab police while Sindh police has data of 0.25 million in its record.

Inspector General Punjab reiterated to cooperate with Sindh police and said this agreement would be a start for a long term partnership and in future both provinces will continue collaboration to protect citizens.

A police squad saluted IGP Sindh upon arriving at CPO. He admired Punjab Police’s initiative of Front Desk System and Welfare Eye app to take care of families of martyrs.

At the end IGP Punjab presented souvenirs to the IGP Sindh, DIG IT Sindh Javed Akbar Riaz and Director IT Tabssum.

Meanwhile, AD Khawaja also visited OPS room of CCPO and DIG operations office.

DIG Operations Captain (r) Muhammad Ameen Wains, DIG Security Dr Moin Masood, SSP Operations Muntazir Mehdi, Chief Traffic Officer Rai Ejaz Ahmed, SP Security Ammara Athar and SP Model Town Faisal Shehzad were present on this occasion.

Inspector General Sindh also visited Punjab Safe City’s Project PCIC3 and acknowledged modern technology based exemplary projects to curb crimes along with efficient traffic management system.

OPC reviews pending cases: A meeting to review the resolution mechanism of the complaints of expatriate Pakistanis pending in Lahore Development Authority (LDA) was held under the Chairmanship of Overseas Pakistanis Commission (OPC) Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti.

Director General Usman Anwar, LDA Additional DG Rana Zeeshan, Director Land Development Akbar Nakai, Deputy Directors Rizwan Nazir, Wahid Arjumand and other officers of both organisations attended the meeting.

Certain complaints of expatriate Pakistanis referred to Lahore Development Authority by Overseas Pakistanis Commission were thoroughly discussed during the meeting. Afzaal Bhatti instructed the LDA authorities to expedite the resolution process of the complaints on priority basis.

Usman Anwar apprised the meeting about the current status of pending complaints of Overseas Pakistanis in Lahore Development Authority.

PHP arrests 31 accused: Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) seized 55,770 litter Iranian oil, registered 243 cases against traffic rules violaters, apprehended seven suspicious persons, arrested 31 culprits who displayed fake registration number plates, arrested six drunks while disturbing public peace.

PHP Post Ghazi Ghat seized 55,770 litter Iranian oil and arrested drivers Najeed-Ullah and Muhammad Umer. In other case unjab Highway Patrol post Saroke arrested three suspicious persons Faiz Ahmed, Nazam Sajjad, Waqas Rehan and patrolling post Sukh Chain arrested four suspicious persons Muhammad Arshad, Muhammad Ajmal, Muhammad Nadeem, Kabir Hussain who were sitting with intention of robbery. PHP arrested six drunks identified as Javaid, Tariq, Hassan Raza, Ali Haider, Azhar, Ghazanfar Ali.
