Rain saves Aqeel in tennis final
ISLAMABAD: Rain saved Pakistan No 1 Aqeel Khan’s blushes in the men’s singles final of the 2nd SNGPL All Pakistan Tennis Championship at the Bagh-e-Jinnah courts in Lahore on Monday.
When rain started pouring down Muhammad Abid was leading 6-3, 4-2. Due to heavy downpour, the referee stopped play and later both were declared joint winners.Abid was given 60 percent of prize money (set forth for winner and runner up) while Aqeel got 40 percent of the amount.Sarah Mehboob overcame spirited Noor Malik to win the ladies singles title. Double delight for Muhammad Shoaib by winning men’s singles and doubles titles.Hamid Israr of Peshawar won the Under-12 title beating Uzair Khan 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. In the boy’ Under-12 doubles final, Bilal Asim and Shaeel Tahir beat Ehtasam Humion and Hamaza Roman in a three-hour long match 7-6, 4-6, 10-7.
