Man commits, wife attempts suicide

LAHORE: A 30-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope in the Baghbanpura area on Thursday.

The deceased identified as Muzammil hailed from Dera Ghazi Khan and lived in a rented house in the Baghbanpura along with his wife. His wife, Maria, 26, also attempted to end her life by taking poisonous pills. She was admitted to hospital where her condition was stated to be precarious.

Police said unknown domestic issues had marred the relations between the couple who got married almost two months back. Muzammil had also injured his wife with an iron rod the previous day after having an exchange of harsh words with her, police added.

Meanwhile, a man committed suicide by taking poisonous pills in the Kahna area. The deceased identified as Muhammad Sajid was depressed as he was unable to repay his debts. On the day of the incident, he took poisonous pills, and his condition went critical. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The bodies have been removed to morgue.

Man dies: A 65-year-old man expired in a hospital on Thursday, shortly after he was found unconscious in the Subzazar police jurisdiction. The Subzazar police station SHO said the man, yet to be identified, might have died of cardiac seizure. The body has been removed to morgue.

PSCA: Punjab Safe Cities Authority reviewed the performance of its Integrated Command, Control and Communication Center's (IC3) for April 2018.

In the last month, in a bid to serve e-data requests by Punjab police and other law enforcement agencies, the PPIC3 centre provided electronic evidence data pertaining to more than 130 heinous criminal cases that included 50 dacoity/snatching investigations and at least six kidnapping for ransom/abduction investigations. The PSCA Public Safety App contributed to the recovery of five people, three vehicles and 64 motorbikes through its infamous Lost & Found section.

The authority’s Operations Monitoring Centre secured more than 14,775 observations that warranted more than 10 FIRs and interception of more than 194 suspicious persons by PRU and Dolphin Squad. The OMC, which employs state-of-the-art CCTV surveillance operations through the geo-strategic grid of cameras within the metropolis, managed to impound 1,150 vehicles without number plates through police stations. More than 131 rallies and protests were monitored and security measures were taken thereof.

The 15 Emergency Helpline received more than 320,000 calls, out of which, 222,970 were considered hoaxes and approximately 30,000 were with genuine concerns. As many as 1,937 of such cases pertained to Rescue-1122 and around 1,927 were about traffic management or CTP help. Around 1,062 calls reported harassment/eve-teasing charges whereby 465 cases were considered valid for police action.

The Media Monitoring Centre (MMC) cracked down on 138 objectionable social media pages and IDs containing violent, anti-state or profane content. The PSCA also carried out traffic laws awareness drive through its unprecedented VMS screens installed across all prominent roads within the city.

Security exercise: Police held a mock exercise at Government Fatima Jinnah College, Chuna Mandi, on Thursday to create a sense of safety among the students. Officials of Masti Gate police, Dolphin, Elit force and Rescue 1122 participated in the exercise.
