PHC summons officials over incorrect CT scan report
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has summoned secretary health, director Hayatabad Medical Complex and a doctor over an incorrect computed tomography (CT) scan report of a female patient.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan and Justice Lal Jan Khattak issued directions to the secretary health and hospital’s director and the doctor who conducted the CT Scan to appear in the court on May 10 and explain their position.
During hearing, Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan remarked that incompetent people were being appointed in the public sector hospitals, and they play with the lives of people. He observed that despite charging the patients huge fee, results of the tests and CT scan were mostly incorrect in the government hospitals. Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan observed that such incorrect reports have raised questions over the performance of the public sector hospitals.
The court took notice on an application regarding incorrect CT scan report of a woman named Yasmeen Akhtar at Hayatabad Medical Complex. It was explained before the court that the women had been operated upon due to an issue in her gallbladder, which was removed. The woman then confirmed through an ultrasound at a private clinic that her gallbladder is removed.
The court was informed that recently the woman, after her stomach problem, went to the hospital and the doctors advised her CT scan. It was informed that the radiologist, who conducted the CT scan, mentioned in the report that the gallbladder of the women in the abdomen is normal in function.
After the report, it said, the woman got worried that how it possible that her gallbladder report is normal after she had removed it through surgery.
The court then summoned the acting director of the hospital and inquired about the report. He informed the court that the report was prepared by the Radiology Department and the medical and hospital’s director had gone to Islamabad for a meeting. Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan observed that why not licence of the doctor who conducted the CT scan be cancelled, and summoned the officials to the court.
