Islamabad : Director General of the Pakistan National Council of the Arts Syed Jamal Shah condoled the death of actress, social activist and founder of the Ajoka Theatre Madiha Gauhar.
In a condolence message, he said words cannot even begin to express his deep sorrow at the death of Madiha Gauhar. "Madiha Gauhar was a great exponent of theatre reflecting the socio-political evils in our society. She was bold and blunt playwright, actress and theatre director. Her work would remain a living milestone for the generations to come," he said.
Munir Ahmed, the Devcom-Pakistan director, said our generation learnt a lot of the techniques of presenting and performing the theatre for social change from Madiha Gauhar. "Madiha Gauhar was the founding figure of a theatre movement in 1983 that mainstreamed the political messages against the tyranny of the Martial-law. With her great and untiring efforts the theatre got enriched with the objectivity," he said. Munir Ahmed said she was the pride of theatre and would be remembered as a change agent in the history of theatre in the subcontinent.
