ISLAMABAD: Senior PPP politician Nadeem Afzal Chan has joined the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), however, the formal announcement will be made on the occasion of visit of PTI Chairman Imran Khan to Chan’s hometown on April 25.

PTI’s central media department also circulated photographs of Imran, Chan and some others having a meeting here. In one picture, Chan is shown embracing Imran with a smile on his face.

Hitherto, former PPP leader has been in low profile in the recent months but denying having decided to part ways with the party. However, speculations were rife about his joining PTI, ever since his younger brother Waseem Afzal last year became part of PTI.

Chan had quit his post in the PPP after his brother left the party, saying he could not continue on 'moral grounds' as the party’s office-bearer. Besides others, PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, former secretary general Jahangir Tareen and party's southern Punjab President Amir Kayani were also present on the occasion.

Chan heaped praise on Imran for his efforts against corruption and invited Imran to visit his hometown of Pir Mako on April 25, which the PTI chairman accepted. A formal announcement of Nadeem joining the PTI is expected to be made during that visit.

The Chan brothers hail from the well-known Gondal family of Mandi Bahauddin. Already, their uncles, Nazar Gondal and Zulfiqar Gondal have joined PTI, leaving PPP. Other prominent PPP leaders, who said goodbye to the party and joined PTI, include Dr Firdos Ashiq Awan, Nazar Gondal and Noor Alam Khan from Peshawar.
