LAHORE: JI secretary general Liaquat Baloch condemned firing of shots at the residence of Justice Ijazul Ahsan of Supreme Court in Lahore and said the incident had given rise to several questions.

In a statement on Monday, he stressed the judiciary, executive and state institutions to hold a thorough enquiry into the incident and bring to light all the facts. He said it was the responsibility of society as a whole to protect independent judiciary and judges. At the same time, he said, the judiciary should perform its duties as an impartial and independent institution. Baloch said governments were completing their constitutional term but there was an atmosphere of uncertainty and mistrust. He said Pakistan was the target of enemy forces who wanted the country to drift away from the path of democracy.
