Sindh Inspector General of Police AD Khowaja, acting on directives from the Election Commission of Pakistan, has imposed a ban on all kinds of recruitment in the provincial police force.

He issued an order on Friday for enforcing the ban to all additional inspectors general, deputy inspectors general and senior superintendents of police. In his order, Khowaja said, “It is intimated that the Election Commission of Pakistan has imposed [a] ban on all kinds of recruitments vide a notification issued on April-11.

“In view of the above, I am directed to convey that all kinds of ongoing recruitment process in Sindh Police shall be suspended forthwith except those where written test and interviews have already been conducted before April-1, 2018.

“Record of entire recruitment shall be sealed and secured by heads of recruitment committees notified by Central Police Office (CPO).” According to the IGP’s directives, certificates containing a summary of the process conducted so far would be to the CPO in three days.

“The process would be resumed once the ban from the Election Commission of Pakistan is lifted. The said direction should be adhered to in letter and spirit.” The ECP has also put a temporary ban on the recruitment of public servants in the federal, provincial and local government institutions in view of the upcoming general elections.

According to a statement issued by the ECP, all authorities concerned have been made aware of the hiring freeze, as the step seeks to ensure transparency of the general elections. The move aims at discouraging any pre-poll rigging by using government jobs as an incentive.

However, it was clarified that there would be no ban on hiring by the federal and provincial public service commissions.

Moreover, the implementation of all the development schemes, which have been approved after April 1, will also be put to a halt. There will also be a ban on putting plaques of politicians at schools, hospitals and roads. “This step has been taken to ensure that the funds released for ongoing development projects are not used for other schemes,” the statement said.
