MANSEHRA: The Awami National Party workers convention held in its stronghold of Torghar district has exposed the internal rifts as it failed to make it a power show.
The convention held in Mera Madakhail, once a stronghold of the ANP, could not pull a big crowd as was claimed by former MNA Laiq Mohammad Khan.
The disgruntled group led by the provincial vice-president Nimroz Khan, who is against award of ticket to Laiq from PK-35 Torghar for the coming general election, didn’t show up at the convention addressed by provincial secretary general Sardar Hussain Babak. “The ANP would re-emerge as a single largest party in KP in the upcoming general elections and would install its government,” said Babak.
He said that anti-Pakhtun policies of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf would ditch it in general election.
“The 2018 general election in KP would prove to be a referendum and people would give a clear verdict in our support,” Babak added. He said that the Muttihada Majlis-i-Amal would not be able to win seats.
Speaking on the occasion, former MNA Laiq Mohammad Khan said the ANP had empowered people in Torghar after giving it the status of a district.
