PPP reviews situation after Saulat Mirza’s disclosures

KARACHI: An informal meeting of the PPP leadership was held at the Bilawal House here on Thursday with party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in the chair, in which the situation arising out of astonishing disclosures made by Saulat Mirza was analysed.
According to the PPP sources, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and provincial ministers took part in the meeting in which the country’s overall political and security situation, the developments that surfaced after Mirza’s disclosures and allegations leveled against the PPP came under discussion.
Sources say a strategy had also been devised for maintaining law and order in Sindh in the backdrop of the emerging scenario.
Qaim Ali Shah informed Zardari about the Karachi situation. The meeting decided that the PPP would come up with a new policy after thorough intra-party consultations and discussions with other parties about the obtaining political scenario.
The chief minister informed the former president about the decisions made in the meeting of the Council of Common Interests.
Meanwhile, it was also revealed that the PPP had deferred the decision to include the MQM in the Sindh government. Zardari was told that the PPP had already invited the MQM to join the Sindh government; however, no contacts for participation of MQM in the provincial government would be made in future mainly because it was for the MQM to play its cards.
Moreover, in another meeting, Zardari directed the Sindh Education Department to continue efforts for keeping the promises made with the people of the province. He emphasised merit-based recruitment of teachers and due preference to the teachers’ training.
Taking notice of the inadequate basic facilities in schools of the province, the PPP co-chairman directed the authorities to improve the school infrastructure on immediate basis.
Zardari said the management and teachers’ cadre be separated and meritocracy be ensured at the district level.
