Dwyer steps down as ECB’s administrator

LONDON: Matt Dwyer, ECB’s much-admired director of growth and participation, has decided to leave his current position and join Tennis Australia, it was confirmed on Friday (April 6).

Dwyer initiated All Stars Cricket last year in an attempt to attract the younger generation of supporters to the game in England. The initiative was taken in the backdrop of a research that noted a mere two percent of kids in the age group between 7 and 12 said cricket was their favourite sport in the country. The initiative attracted around 37,000 children last year.

The eight-week camp for kids offered “a first experience of the sport through local cricket clubs and centres”. Dwyer, who also served as the Senior Manager of Market Development at Cricket Australia, played a major role in helping to boost participation levels in Australia.

“We are delighted to welcome Matt to tennis and believe his impeccable sporting credentials and sound business experience will help us continue to grow the sport at all levels,” Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley said. “We welcome Matt’s proven leadership skills in both sport and business to this new executive role which will oversee the two major pillars of our sport, participation and performance.”
