People at vital posts must act responsibly, says Sherry
KARACHI: The newly-appointed Leader of the Opposition in Senate, Senator Sherry Rehman, has said that it doesn’t suit Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to talk about electing a new consensus and joint candidate as chairman of the Upper House of Parliament.
“It doesn’t suit the accidental prime minister to do talk on a consensus and joint chairman of Senate. Responsible statements should be given by the persons who hold responsible offices,” she said.
The senator of Pakistan People's Party stated this on Sunday while talking to newsmen after she visited the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah to offer fateha for the founder of the nation.
She said it was a good omen that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) had thought about supremacy of the parliament. “We should keep ourselves away from hatred,” she said. She said that the current year 2018 was the year of general election as all the concerned political parties would come up with their respective election manifestos to present them before the masses. She said that the PPP would continue with its struggle for supremacy of democracy.
She said that her party had been striving to steer Pakistan out of difficulties. She said that it was need of the hour to resolve issues of smaller provinces, including that of Balochistan. She said that people’s voice would now reverberate in the house of Senate.
To a question about recent statements of Awami Muslim League leader Sheikh Rasheed, she said that Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed had constitutional and democratic right to speak whatever he liked.
She expressed her pleasure that the past glory of the city of Karachi had been fully revived with the holding of final match of Pakistan Super League in the city. She greeted the entire nation for the successful holding of PSL final round matches in the country.
