The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is the gateway to the economic well-being of the people of both China and Pakistan. The project will specifically play a significant role in strengthening the economy of Pakistan. As we continue to fall short of our power generation requirement, excessive electricity breakdowns have become a norm in the country. But a project as huge as CPEC can help streamline Pakistan’s energy problems as well as enhance our capacity to stabilise our country and secure it. Keeping a win-win approach is paramount to accomplishing the desired goals.
But as per recent developments, China has temporarily halted funding for three major road network projects included in CPEC. Any delay in completion of these projects may carry massive political consequences for the incumbent government. If CPEC faces controversies, the ruling party will have to answer a lot of questions as it begins canvassing for votes ahead of the next general elections.
