‘PM to inaugurate first phase of Green Line in May’
State Minister for Communications Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry on Tuesday announced that the first phase of the Green Line Bus Project in Karachi – from Surjani Town to Numaish Chowrangi – would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in May this year. The announcement from the minister came at a meeting he presided at the Karachi office of the National Highway Authority.
“The second phase of the Green Line Bus Project – from Numaish Chowrangi to Merewether Tower – will be completed by the end of 2018. Once completed, around 400,000 passengers are expected to be facilitated per day,” said Chaudhry.
Over the course of the meeting, the minister was briefed by officials of the Karachi Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited. They said that the 14 main bus stations out of the total of 21 would be complete by the time of the first phase’s launch. However, they told the minister that land for a bus depot at Surjani Town was yet to be allotted to the KIDCL by the Sindh government.
NHA officials said that 92 per cent work had been completed on the M-9 section of the Karachi-Hyderabad motorway. Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, the minister said there were no issues regarding funds for communication and infrastructure projects in Karachi. “The federal government is trying hard to resolve all issues with the Sindh government so that the people of Karachi can be facilitated to the maximum,” said Chaudhry.
