A 28-year-old man ended his life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at a servant quarter of an apartment near Cantonment Railway Station on Tuesday.
SHO Rana Lateef of the Frere Police Station told The News that police were called to the house after residents saw the body of Narine, son of Karmoon, hanging from the ceiling fan of his room.
The man was the driver of the owner of the apartment. He had come to Karachi from Tharparkar for the job. A police team took the deceased to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a postmortem examination.
The SHO said a medico-legal examiner suggested in his report that there was no mark of torture on the body, and a preliminary investigation showed the man had committed suicide. Police retrieved the call data record of his cell-phone to ascertain the cause of his suicide.
Girl ‘kills self’
An 18-year-old girl took her own life by drinking poisonous substance in Shah Lateef Town, Razzakabad. Acoording to the Edhi Foundation, a rescue team reached Razzakabad after they received a call that the girl had fallen unconscious after drinking poison.
The team carried the girl to the Jinnah Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. When Shah Lateef Town Police Station’s SHO Ghaffar Shah was contacted for
confirmation, he said there was no such entry in the daily diary, and he was sending a duty officer to the hospital for verification.
