ISLAMABAD: At last, the government has formed a committee to find the new vice-chancellor for the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, Islamabad, on the permanent basis.
The development comes following the VC appointment's approval by the federal cabinet. The committee comprises federal minister for health services and regulation Saira Afzal Tarar, federal education and professional training minister Balighur Rehman, state minister for the Capital Administration and Development Division Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, the University of Health Sciences Lahore's VC and noted public health specialist Dr Sania Nishtar.
It will interview candidates before recommending three of them to the chancellor for picking one to fill the top SZABMU post awaiting permanent appointment early January when the incumbent, Professor Javed Akram, quit after completing the four-year stint. After its establishment in March 2013, Prof Javed had become the university’s first VC on January 7, 2014.
