ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice (R) Javed Iqbal Thursday approved complaint verifications against Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafiq and KP law minister and two MPAs for alleged corruption and amassing assets beyond known source of income.

Saad Rafiq and some railway officials will face complaint verification for alleged corruption in installation of a computerised inter-locking system from Rohri to Tando Adam track.

Justice (R) Javed approved complaint verifications during a meeting here. The other allegations against them are misappropriation in procurement of generators and other equipment.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Law Minister Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi and two sitting MPAs, Ziaullah Bangash and Amjad Afridi will face inquiries for allegedly taking bribes for appointment of 111 persons in the District Education Office, Kohat and having assets beyond known source of income.

The NAB chairman also ordered complaint verification against the PPP MNA from Khairpur, Sindh Nawab Wasan and others for accumulating assets beyond known source of income. An inquiry was also started against Saima Ahad, the wife of former Lahore Development Authority (LDA) director general Ahad Cheema.

The investigation into a case against Cheema has revealed that many of his assets were registered in his wife's name. Saima had served as the deputy commissioner of Okara before being transferred to the Punjab Finance Department, where she was assigned various responsibilities.

Addressing the meeting, Justice (R) Javed Iqbal asked the officers to consider elimination of corruption as their national responsibility. He directed the officers to conclude verifications, inquiries and investigations within the prescribed time frame in the light of merit, law and concrete evidence.
