Museum exhibition pays tribute to women

LAHORE: Lahore Museum paying tribute to the leading women figures of Pakistan history organised an exhibition at Pakistan Movement Gallery at Lahore Museum.

More than 120 pictures with their description are on display from various sections of society including politics, judiciary, showbiz and others. A section is also allocated for the women who have a great contribution to the nourishment of the Lahore Museum galleries.

Director, Lahore Museum, Humayun Mazhar told the media that the exhibition will create soft image of the country and highlights the leading figures like Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah. “The exhibition on International Women’s Day highlights the fact that women in Pakistan have contributed a lot to the prosperity of Pakistan,” he said.

Iffat Azeem Senior Research Officer at Lahore Museum told The News that exhibition will continue for one month and it may be extended up to two months.“It depends on the public response. We have put our efforts to make the gallery very interactive for people.”

A large number of visitors, college students, museums officials including Asim Rizwan, Abbas Tabish were also present In a statement, Provincial Minister for HR&MA Khalil Tahir Sindhu has said that the Punjab government is working on key human rights priority areas concerning women, which include formulation of national policy guidelines on gender-based violence, reviewing all discriminatory legislation against women, establishment of new crisis centres and strengthening of existing services at district, provincial and federal levels. The minister said the Punjab government has taken several important initiatives including policy changes, legal reforms, access to justice and protection of women, children, minorities and vulnerable populations.

underprivileged women: Pakistan’s positive future is result of underprivileged women empowerment, which has full support of the society and the nation. This was stated by Mrs Dr Umar Saif while addressing a function held under the auspices of Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) Thursday.

She said that we could empower the underprivileged women by equipping them with skills to earn in an honourable and dignified manner while being at home.

CEO of an NGO Shameelah Ismail shared her experience and said that she had trained 400 female beautician workers who earn Rs45,000 per month. Female captains Azra Ali and Nabeela Ashraf expressed that their experience was challenging and interesting with handsome earnings, however, male passengers were always surprised to see us on the driving seat.

services lauded: Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB)’s Citizen Feedback Monitoring Programme (CFMP) has helped a lot to improve the public service after contacting more than 22 million identified citizens who utilise public services for their feedback regarding their experience of various public services, which is analysed to identify problem areas and help the officials take evidence based prompt corrective measures.

He lauded the acknowledgement of CFMP services by Dr Rizwan Naseer Director General Rescue 1122, stating that CFMP has significantly helped Rescue 1122 to improve service delivery through citizens feedback regarding the staff attitude and service quality of the leading Emergency Service of the SAARC region providing integrated emergency ambulance, rescue and fire services and disaster response.

Meanwhile, Lahore Transport Company (LTC) CEO Miss Mariam Khawar said International Women’s day is celebrated by keeping in view the social, cultural, economic and political achievement of women globally.

Addressing a programme held Thursday, she said female population in Pakistan is 49.2 percent while the labour force of female population is only 28 percent.

For me the concept of woman empowerment is relatively different in contemporary times, where under certain limits woman can achieve the path of success; the attainment of goals should not be based on idealism rather based on deeming religious and pragmatic approach of life.
