PESHAWAR: Sunny John Masih on Saturday shot a hole-in-one and won a 1000cc car as Muhammad Shabbir maintained his lead in the 3rd RMI Open Golf Championship here at the Pakistan Air Force Golf Club.
Lahore Gymkhana’s Sunny achieved the feat on the 182-metre seventh hole. A jubilant Sunny said afterwards: “I was not thinking of making a hole-in-one. I just wanted to finish a good round of five under 67.”
Sunny played a 72 par round on the opening day. “I made a bogey on the third hole before making the hole-in-one. I also had birdies on holes number 9, 12, 15 and 17,” he added.
Shabbir added a five under 67 to his overnight 66 for an aggregated score of 11 under 133 over 36 holes. On Saturday, Shabbir carded 33 on the front 9 and 34 on the back 9 with an eagle on the 17th hole besides making three birdies.
Promising golfer Muhammad Ashfaq added 64 to his overnight two under 70. He carded birdies on holes number 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 15 and 17. Matloob Ahmad added four under 68 to his overnight 69 for an aggregated score of seven under 137. M Munir (138) added one under 71 to his overnight 67.
In the amateur category, international golfer and member of the Pakistan team Taimur Naseer of PAF carded a gross score of one under 71. Akbar Qayyum Bokhari (71) was in second position and Zubair Hussain (73) third.
