US Congress delegation meets PTI leaders

ISLAMABAD: A delegation of US Congress Staff members Thursday called upon senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership and held a detailed discussion on the US move to put Pakistan on the terror financing watch list.

According to the party’s central media department (CMD), senior leaders of PTI including Asad Umer, Fawad Choudhary and Dr Shehzad Waseem met the delegation of US including staff members of committees on defense and foreign affairs of Congress. During the meeting, discussions were held on n a wide range of issues exclusively focusing Pak-US relations and United States’ Afghanistan policy. PTI called for acknowledgment from US government over Pakistan’s efforts in the war against terrorism. It urged that revision of policies and strategies towards Pakistan by US administration is the need of the hour.

Instead of escalating pressure, US must appraise Pakistan’s role in maintaining peace and security in the region, it said. The discussion focused on efforts for the promotion of peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan.

PTI reiterated that Pakistan is the country that wants peace in Afghanistan the most. Finally the meeting concluded vowing to establish continuity in mutual relations between the countries, it said.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan congratulated senior leader PTI and legal expert Dr Babar Awan for the win in the electoral reforms case in Supreme Court and has termed it a milestone in country’s democratic progression.

Imran Khan in a telephonic conversation with senior PTI leader Babar felicitated him over the win and admired his relentless prosecution during the case.

Terming it a milestone in country’s democratic history, he stated that this decision will strengthen democracy.
