Delays and despair
The target was 2017 for the completion of Karachi’s Green Line project, but now it is February 2018 and we cannot see the possibility that this project will be completed soon. Since wide roads are reduced to two to three lanes, the number of buses riding on them has been reduced. People who are going to work have to look for other options to reach their offices. But the alternative transportation in Karachi is quite expensive.
A rickshaw or taxi ride from the city’s centre to Tower – the city’s business centre – costs between Rs400 and Rs500. A majority of people cannot afford such high rates. The project was supposed to provide affordable and convenient transportation system to the people of Karachi. However, it has added to the miseries of resident. The authorities concerned must take necessary steps to complete the project on time.
