Minister inaugurates furniture fair
ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Industries and Production Arshad Laghari on Friday inaugurated the three-day Pakistan Lifestyle and Furniture Expo organised by Furniture Pakistan.
Laghari said the exhibition will provide the younger designers and architects to see the market trends and display their own work alongside that of more established professionals.
“In order to promote and enhance the compatibility of the furniture industry and craftsmanship of Pakistan in international markets, the government of Pakistan developed a strategy,” a government statement said. “Establishment of the company ‘Furniture Pakistan’ is the major component of the strategy as envisioned by eminent government authorities.”
Pakistan’s wood industry is well developed and captures 95 percent of the country’s total market for furniture. The country has more than 700 units of wooden furniture making with Chiniot alone meeting 80 percent of furniture demand in the country and Gujarat, with world-class furniture, Peshawar, Lahore and Karachi being important centres.
