Pemra reminds electronic media about ban on celebrating Valentine’s Day
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Wednesday issued a reminder to electronic media regarding the ban imposed on celebrating Valentine's Day and its promotion.Pemra reminder - quoting the operative part of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) judgment of February 13, 2017 - said that the court had directed the media that nothing about Valentine's Day and its celebration would be spread on either electronic or print media.
The court directed that no event would be held at official level, or at any public place. The IHC also directed the Pemra chairman to ensure that all television channels stopped promotion of Valentine's Day forthwith. The reminder said that the IHC orders were still in field so all broadcast media and distribution service licencees were advised to desist from promotion of Valentine's Day from their respective channels and networks.
