NAB files reference against former Peshawar Town-II Nazim

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday filed a reference in the accountability court against former Nazim Town-II for allegedly making illegal assets of Rs210 million. As per the NAB reference, the accused, Muhammad Sharif, had a humble family background. It said the accused joined the Education Department as a junior clerk in 1977 and resigned in 1999.

The bureau stated that the accused served as Naib Nazim Union Council Lala Killay from 2000 to 2005. It said that in 2005 he was elected nazim of Town-II, Peshawar City, and held the office till 2009. The NAB claimed in the reference that the suspect through corruption and corrupt practices accumulated huge movable and immovable assets in his name, which were disproportionate to his known sources of income. As per the inquiry/investigation, it said the accused purchased one kanal land in Lala Killay, 10 marla plot of land in Hayatabad, two kanal plot of land at Shah Allah Ditta in Islamabad and two kanal plots at Tarnul Road Islamabad.

It said the accused spent Rs31,64, 531 on the education of his children. It said the suspect purchased a car for Rs4,35,000 in 1998. It said the suspect purchased a land cruiser for Rs13,50,000 in 2015. The NAB claimed the accused had huge expenditure of Rs1,36, 83,874 while he had an income of just Rs59,19,655.
