KARACHI: A meeting chaired by the Counter-Terrorism Department’s Additional Inspector General Sanaullah Abbasi on Sunday decided to arrest suspended Malir SSP Rao Anwar in the Naqeebullah Mehsud probe.

Naqeebullah was gunned down last week in Karachi by Rao Anwar-led police team over alleged terror activities. However, preliminary probe revealed that he was killed in cold blood and had no terror links. Sindh’s Additional Inspector General of Police sacked Malir SSP following the incident and the authorities will be arresting the alleged perpetrator.

CTD Additional IG-led meeting agreed to arresting Malir SSP and the personnel involved and transferring Malir SHO. The meeting resolved to lodge an FIR against the suspended officer and the personnel involved. The meeting decided on Investigation Wing SP Abid Qaimkhani for heading the probe. On the other hand, forensic tests of the weapons that Anwar claimed to have seized from Naqeebullah’s possession reveal that they were never used.

Rao Anwar has refused to appear before an inquiry committee and refuted the news that three police officers have recorded their statements against him. In what came as an important development in slain Naqeebullah case, an imprisoned operative of a banned outfit denied knowing Naqeebullah. CTD Additional IG Abbasi and East DIG Sultan Khawaja among four members of the probe committee recorded Qari Ahsanullah’s statement in Central Jail. Rao Anwar had claimed that Naqeebullah Mehsud worked with Qari Ahsan.
