KARACHI: The Sindh Inspector General of Police AD Khowaja has transferred District Malir Senior Superintendent of Police Rao Anwaar to ensure a fair and transparent inquiry of the suspected extrajudicial killing of 27-year-old Naseemullah alias Naqeeb Mehsud along with three other suspects in an encounter at Shah Lateef Town on January 13.
Controversy soon arose over the killings and the relatives of Naseemullah claimed that he was killed extrajudicially. The IG had set up an inquiry committee comprising Additional IGP CTD Dr Sanaullah Abbasi, DIGP East Zone Sultan Ali Khowaja and DIGP South Zone Azad Khan.
While the inquiry is still underway, it was decided to transfer and suspend SSP Malir Rao Anwaar and SP Investigation-II East Malik Altaf Sarwar. Both the officers have been ordered to report to the CPO. The IGP has also written to the Ministry of Interior for placing the names of SSP Rao Anwaar and rest of the police party on the Exit Control List.
Meanwhile, SSP Adeel Hussain Chandio has been transferred and posted as District Malir SSP. Also the acting Additional IGP Karachi Aftab Ahmed Khan Pathan, has suspended Shah Lateef police station SHO Amanullah Marwat, ASI Gada Hussain, Head Constables: Syed Sadaqat Hussain Shah and Mohsin Abbas and Constables Raja Shamim Mukhtar and Rana Riaz Ahmed on recommendations of the investigation committee for taking part in the alleged encounter.
According to the CTD spokesman, the two were attempting to enter Punjab from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
