SC orders arrest of cops with fake degrees
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Wednesday ordered arrest of the Punjab police officials having fake degrees.
Accepting seven appeals filed by the Punjab government against the Lahore High Court orders, a three-member bench, headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, directed the arrest of policemen who were appointed despite having fake degrees. Additional Prosecutor Punjab Muhammad Jaffer told the court that seven official were appointed in Rawalpindi police on fake degrees, while a number of such cases were pending with courts.
He said the trial court had released the accused on the basis of departmental action and the LHC held that departmental action taken against the accused was quite sufficient. Suspending the LHC orders, the apex court held that the trial court should hear the matter afresh and decide it on merit. The policemen having fake degrees include Muhammad Ayyub, Jehangir Akhtar, Arshad Mahmood, Majid Ali, Bunyaad Hussain and Ghalib Hussain.
