NOWSHERA: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said on Monday that the corrupt politicians turned the politics into a lucrative business, amassed wealth and destroyed state institutions in the process.

Speaking at a joining ceremony in Akora Khattak, he questioned the sources of income of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, former president Asif Ali Zardari and Awami National Party (ANP) chief Asfandyar Wali Khan that they had purchased huge properties and other land. He said that the politicians never considered themselves accountable to the masses. “No one could bother to challenge the corrupt politicians and they were given a free hand to plunder the national wealth,” he maintained.

Pervez Khattak said that provision of education, health, justice, upholding merit and other facilities to people was the responsibility of the government but people did not ask the successive rulers or held them accountable in the past.

“The six-party alliance of religio-political parties Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal ruled the province for five years but did no service to Islam or people,” he went on to say. Similarly, he said the ANP got votes in the name of nationalism but did nothing practical to mitigate the hardships or provide any relief to Pakhtuns. The chief minister said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan provided alternative choice to people and was the only leader who was striving for the welfare of the masses.

He said Imran Khan was fighting for uniform system at the national level where there will be equal health, education, future building and other opportunities for the poor and rich. Pervez Khattak added that the people had to make a decision whether they wanted the status quo politicians to continue or they wanted to give an opportunity to those who really wanted to serve the people and put the country on the path to development and prosperity.
