Five development schemes approved

LAHORE : The Punjab government Friday approved five development schemes of different sectors at an estimated cost of Rs8.588 billion.

These schemes were approved in the 43rd meeting of Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) of current fiscal year 2017-18 presided over by P&D Chairman Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan.

Secretary P&D Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, all members of the Planning & Development Board, provincial secretaries concerned, Assistant Chief P&D Coordination-II Hafiz Muhammad Iqbal and other senior representatives of the relevant provincial departments also attended the meeting.

The approved development schemes included: Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme under Stunting Reduction Programme in 11 Districts of Multan, Bahawalpur and DG Khan Civil Division at the cost of Rs6.371 billion, construction of flyover at Jhal Road Railway Crossing to Sahiwal City at the cost of Rs580.913 million, rehabilitation / carpeting of Phalia to Sial Morr Interchange up to Tahli Adda i/c Phalia Bypass Mandi Bahauddin at the cost of Rs905.322 million, establishment of Sports Complex in Faisalabad City at the cost of Rs500 million and establishment of Suspension Culture Plant for FMD Vaccine Production at Food and Mouth Disease Research Centre (F&MDRC), Lahore. (Part-I: Hiring of Consultant / Consultancy Firm / Consortium) at the cost of Rs231 million.

internship: A passing-out ceremony of the participants in the third senior and junior internship programme was held at Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) building on Friday.

For the two-week training, 45 interns were selected from noted institutes. The interns were given opportunity to see different departments and working of the organisation. They were imparted theoretical knowledge of different tax-related issues and their implementation. Upon completion of the programme, junior interns were rewarded with stipends worth Rs 10,000 while seniors were rewarded with Rs 15000. The groups securing the first three positions were also given cash rewards.

PRA Chairman Dr Raheel Siddiqui showed his satisfaction on the quality of the education being imparted to the students in the universities. He advised the students to work hard in practical life with honesty for the betterment of the nation.
