KARACHI: Many Pakistani players in different age categories won their first round matches in the British Junior Open on Wednesday.
In the under-15 category first round, Asadullah Khan got bye while Junaid Khan beat Yannick Mahieu of Belgium 11-3, 11-5, 12-10 and qualifier Ashab Irfan defeated Emirhan Sen of Turkey 12-10, 11-5, 11-5.
In the under-17 category first round, Malik Abdul Moiez beat Harry Kitchens of England 9-11, 11-3, 11-2, 14-12; Haris Qasim thrashed Bogdan Catalin Vasile from Romania 11-2, 11-1, 11-1; Farhan Hashmi overpowered Daniel Malek of Canada 11-5, 10-12, 11-4, 11-6; and Uzair Shaukat won against Ethan Kaye 11-1, 11-0, 11-2.
In the under-19 category, Abdul Malik got bye in the first round and will now play against Jacob Ford of Australia in the second round. Mansoor Zaman is up against Nathan Van Der Westhuyzen of South Africa, Uzair Rasheed is drawn against Gonzalo Romero Rodríguez of Spain. Zeeshan Zeb defeated Cameron Haddow from England 11-5, 11-9, 11-7 in the first round in under-19 category.
