High ranking military and civil authorities, including force Commander Major General Saqib Mehmood Malik, participated in the funeral prayer of the martyred Jawans. The funeral prayer was offered at the Gilgit helipad.
It is pertinent to mention here that five army personnel got martyred after an avalanche hit an army base in the world’s highest battle ground on Saturday. Rescue operation was conducted in the area with the help of locals. Heavy machinery was also used for the rescue operation, but the five Jawans could not survive and embraced martyrdom. Three out of the five Jawans belonged to the Northern areas. Earlier, 10 Indian soldiers were hit by an avalanche at the northern Siachen Glacier in February last year.
